DIY Pie in a Jar Gifts and À la mode Pie Bar #ShareTheJoyOfPie

Last week, my kiddos and I enjoyed an À la mode Pie Bar along with a super easy, totally scrumptious, and decided to Share the Joy of Pie with our new neighbors.  Unlike your traditional slaving-in-the-kitchen-for-hours pies in jars, this recipe uses Marie Callender's® Dessert Pies and  Reddi-wip® Whipped Topping for a simple recipe that's just as delicious and a zillion times easier!

Materials Needed:
  • Marie Callender's Dessert Pies
  • Reddi-wip Topping
  • Medium Mason Jars
  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Sprinkles, Syrup, and Other Toppings
  • Printables (found at the end of this post)
  • Scissors
  • 1/4"-wide ribbon

Instructions
  1. Follow the package directions on the Marie Callender box. If you use a pie variety that includes a separate topping, set aside to use as a layer in the jar.
  2. At room temperature, the pies take 3 hours to cool.  Stick them in the fridge for about an hour and they'll be ready to fill the jars with.
  3. Stir your pies into a beautiful mess!  Line the bottom of each jar with pie topping if you have it.  Otherwise, simply start with a few dollops of pie.  Spray on some Reddi-wip.  Do each layer one more time.  Fill with whipped cream to just below the lip of the jar. Spread sprinkles or crushed pie topping across the uppermost layer of whipped cream.  Decorate as pictured below.
  4. For the dessert you won't be giving away, combine anything in any way that suits your pleasure.  Placing your pie serving in a bowl and then heating in the microwave for 15 seconds tastes especially amazing if you'll be adding ice cream, going the a la mode route!
  5. After finishing your dessert, head to the neighbors' house!  Be sure your recipients know they should keep the Pie in a Jar Gift refrigerated if they won't be enjoying it right away.

I found the Marie Callender's Dessert Pies on the end cap of the frozen section.  They were on sale for an awesome price plus they included a peel-off coupon on the box!  I chose to go with the Dutch Apple Pie and the Razzleberry, a blend of raspberries and blueberries.  They also offer other varieties of apple, peach, pecan, pumpkin, and cherry that would be ideal for this DIY!

Prepare your pie or pies in accordance with the instructions on the back of the package.

Be sure and cover the edges of the pies in tin foil!  They're very likely to burn otherwise.  I left the foil on for the entire hour they cooked and the crust came out a nice golden color.

While your pies bake, prepare everything you'll need for your DIY Pie in a Jar Gifts and À la mode Pie BarCut your ribbon to about 19".  You'll find the free label printable at the end of this post.  I recommend printing them on cardstock but I didn't have any.  Using paper worked just fine, though I did have to tape it to the top to keep the labels from crinkling when I twisted the lids on.

I placed all of the DIY supplies in an orderly section at one end of our À la mode Pie Bar.  It worked perfectly!

Alas, everything was ready!  We had so much fun with our À la mode Pie Bar!  As you can see, on one end we placed the DIY Gift Station.  The other end was the Pie Sundaes Station.  This time around, I did it with the kiddos but this is definitely something I'm going to do when we have friends over.
Here you can see our dessert creations up close.  As you can see, we layered the pie/crust/wip in the jar to make it look scrumptiousYou can also add ice cream for Pie in a Jar A La Mode if you know your recipient will be enjoying the dessert.  I wasn't sure how well everything would freeze and thaw so I didn't go that route for the gift, but it would be worth trying.  Everything tasted amazing and we had so much fun enjoying dessert and then putting together the dessert for our neighbors!
We packaged our Joy of Pie gift in a small, wooden crate I had been saving for just such an occasion.  You could also use those adorable baskets I've seen at the dollar store.  Cute but affordable! I really do believe my love language is gift giving.  I get so much joy out of blessing my friends and neighbors with handmade, creative things... especially desserts!  And, of course, I definitely love receiving gifts myself!

    What do you think?
Will you do a random act of pieness and #ShareTheJoyOfPie with a neighbor or friend? Print out these labels and hang them on your fridge as a reminder!

Date Night Essentials... Purse Must-haves à la Wal-Mart!

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #BeHealthyForEveryPartofLife #CollectiveBias
My fancy date night purse is gorgeous but oh so small!  I have to be selective about what goes inside.  Read on for 3 of my must-haves and where to find them!

Ever since middle school, Chap Stick has been a necessity for my dry lips!  I've never gone for the plain or original variety--I love the flavored.  The new ChapStick Total Hydration Soothing Vanilla is my favorite and it's 100% natural which is always a plus for me, and I know it's a necessity for some of my lovely readers!

Everyone knows that Emergen-C is packed full of vitamin C but it's also amazing for a quick energy boost--perfect for date nights!  It's packed full of 7 B Vitamins and Electrolytes.  It also comes in chewable varieties which I haven't tried yet but which will be what I buy next time I need to stock up.  With over 20 varieties of vitamin supplement drink mixes, Emergen-C offers the formula, flavor, fix, and FUN you’re looking for!

Advil is my go-to pain reliever.  Can't go wrong with the original round tablets providing safe, effective pain relief for over 25 years. I get headaches once a month (some things are so wonderfully timely, aren't they?! a bit of sarcasm here!) and these travel size Advil Tablet Vials are especially perfect!  So nice and compact and easily refillable for keeping in your purse.  Advil is also my preferred relief for any type of joint pain or sore muscles from working out too hard.  Those DVD workouts I do in my room can actually be very intense!

So I found everything at Wal-Mart.  If you've read some of my other Shoppertunities, you probably know that I have a really nice, new Wal-Mart right down the street.  I love the way they've organized it--it's super easy to find stuff!  The Advil Tablet Vials are right in the travel-sized section.  A couple aisles down I found the new ChapStick Total Hydration on the end cap.

Directly next to the end cap where I found the Chapstick, I found numerous varieties of the Emergen-C.  I wish I had purchased the Chewables now but I decided to stick to the ones I knew--the Super Orange which is a drink mix.  Next time, I'll try the Chewables!
So Pfizer's got me all hooked up for a date night with my hubby!  17 years and going strong!  We've had some super rough times but getting through them has made me love him even more--it's that tried and true, for better or for worse kind of thing and it's awesome! And... I love this dress!!  I couldn't wait to wear it!
What's your ideal date night?  Do you have any purse essentials we should all know about?

Eatsie Box Blog Review and Giveaway! A Super Delicious Food Subscription Box

Our first Eatsie Box was stuffed full!  This was only the tip of the iceberg.

8 package of a wide variety of snacks and 2 toys--impressive!  When you sign up for Eatsie Box, you actually tell them what types of snacks you prefer and then they send you a selection.  They did awesomely with my box!!  We loved and enjoyed everything! The problem with other food subscription boxes is, I always get those snacks that no one likes and they end up going in the trash. Not so with Eatsie boxes!!

Everyone's favorite thing in the box! Oh.my.goodness, these were so good!  Made by the same company that makes the best gummy bears, these were bigger... and better if that's possible! I've never seen them in the store so they were an exciting surprise.

Hubby grabbed this one and put it in his hiking bag!

It was cool to see some "treats" that weren't actually edible.  My son had fun making this wooden Stegosaurus.

So what could be cuter and more unexpected than German hippo cookies?!  They were crunchy and filled with something that tasted like a mix between honey and peanut butter. Plus they're educational: "Kids, this is what children in Germany have for snacks."  I love when I can make snacktime even a tiny bit educational!

Golden OREOS!  Can never go wrong with OREOs.  It's really cool that some of these snacks can be found in the store, but many others are things we've never found and probably never will which makes them into some kind of seemingly luxury items we savor.  Speaking of luxury items, I just realized I didn't take a pic of the Cadbury Curly Wurly bar--this was amazing!  It was essentially chocolate covered caramel.  Just like every other Cadbury item, it was delicious!

My kids ate these up before I could try them!  Definitely a hit.

Can't go wrong with Charms Premium Lollipops.  However... I had to hide them away.  Only 3 lollipops with 4 kids does not equal contentment so Mommy may have to enjoy these ones.

Anything that says "Blossom in a hard candy" gives off wary signals in my brain.  But these are delicious!  Very nice to enjoy with a good book. Another one of those goodies I keep hidden away in my secret drawer of things I don't share with my children. ;)

A rubber viking duck!  Now that is just super cute.  The dog ran off with this one.  Lucy thinks every rubber duck in the house was hers... But that cool thing is there was something for every single one of our family members in our Eatsie Box, furry family members included!

Special thanks to Eatsie Box for this review and giveaway opportunity!

Magformers! So What's the Big Attraction? #Discount #HolidayGiftGuide

    http://www.educents.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=magformers#p5qibkl4
My kids all love construction toys and magnets. Magformers have combined the two and come up with something awesome! But what's the big deal, you may ask, about a pile of magnetic shapes? Or, if you want to be punny like me, what's the big attraction?!

Click play on the video above and groove while my kiddos show you just how cool these Magformers really are!

Kids of all ages (husbands included) have a natural “attraction” to magnets. Even little ones can learn facts about magnets and related vocabulary while older kids can create things and experiment with them. My kids' ages range from 7 to 11 and all of them play with these things for hours.  Magnets are intriguing and even mysterious, so the possibilities have seemed endless and exciting! For example, why do opposite magnetic poles attract each other, while like ones repel?  How do the Magformers keep from repelling each other?  Is gravity a kind of magnetism?  And did you know that the ancient Chinese used magnets 5,000 years ago?   There are so many really cool and exciting lessons you can build around magnets!
The big attraction with Magformers is that they always attract!  They never repel because they're made with rotating neodymium magnets which makes them incredibly awesome.
